Lazy high command breaking up Congress’ fort

At one time the Congress, which was the largest party in the country, is now falling on the slope of failures at accelerating pace. The party’s worst condition was not even after the assassination of late Rajiv Gandhi. After Rajiv’s departure, Sonia Gandhi was forced to lead the party. She took the challenge reluctantly but led from the front in keeping the needs of the party in mind. The party was reformed by removing internal strife. Sonia not only look strong in the political journey in the party but proved herself as a strong opposition from the Parliament to the road. Sonia’s strong leadership has led the Congress conquered Delhi in 2004. This series lasted till 2014, thanks to the regime of Dr. Manmohan Singh. But after general election 2014 the Congress was constantly moving away from the corridor of power.

The party which fought for the country’s independence, took the sticks, swung the spirt of ‘Swadeshi’ and patriotism to every households, which gave democracy to the country, and which secured freedom from the slavery. Today the same party is crumbling. In the general election of 1984, the Congress had secured 402 seats with record voting shares, then the BJP, which was broken from the Jan Sangh, got only two seats. But due to the lethargic behaviors, gradually the party’s fort that was built on secularism is steadily shattering apart.

The first term was better than the second term of the UPA starting in 2004, but the scandals that took place during the second term gave a severe blow to the party’s image. The Congress was disillusioned among the people. The legendary Congress leaders did not get out of their AC chambers. The benefits of Government schemes and policies could not reach to the people. This created the atmosphere of rumor and distrust against the Congress in the country. Thus, the Congress won only 44 seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha election, and BJP occupies 282 seats.

Being a party driven by high command, the internal democracy within the Congress is being broken by brick by brick. This is the reason why every single day, a certain Congress leader is returning to the political house of the BJP here. Right now, during the MCD election, two prominent Delhi leaders Barkha Shukla Singh and Arvinder Singh Lovely joined the BJP. In the face of the continuous decline of the Congress’s support in different states, today BJP is ruling in 13 states of the country.

There are two types of workers and leaders in the Congress. One is those who have been associated with the party for years, but there is no identity of themselves. Those who neither ask in any way, nor do the high command of the party take note of what they talk about. This is also a big example of the Congress being overthrown at the grassroots level. From the block level to the booth level, the party’s communication system has collapsed. It is no surprising that there has been a flood of Congress workers joining BJP recently. The other is the leader who has the identity but they do not get out of their luxurious bungalows. When the election comes, only then their faces and statements appear in front of the press. After the election is over, then they are all back into the old profession to earns crores.

There are some Congress leaders who have made many names in the advocacy. Among them, Kapil Sibal, like his father Hiralal Sibal, is the top lawyer who is often called the Legend of Law. Sibal earned millions from practicing law. But for the party, nothing was done by him at the grassroots level. The same is true for P. Chidambaram, Abhishek Manu Sighvi, Ashwani Kumar and Salman Khursid, who practice law throughout the year, in which their one appearance may cost five to ten lakhs.

Kamal Nath is a successful industrialist. People like him are senior leaders in the Congress but work part time for the party. They appear only when the election comes or there is opportunity to talk in front of the press, besides this, they do nothing. They neither take stock of the situation of the party through state-level visits to the grassroots nor do they plan for the party. Could you remember the last time when a big Congress leader came out to the street in the scorching sunshine or agitated, you will take time to remember. Here is a leader of the opposition party, who does not go for a kilometer walk. These are the faces of the party before the people and their laziness is sinking the Congress’ political boat.

Now look at another category of party leaders who belong to the leading or royal family. Neither enthusiasm nor any kind of patriotism could be visible in them. Randeep Surjewala, Jyotiraje Scindia, and Sachin Pilot are the names which got higher positions in the Congress only because of their family legacy. But look what are they doing for the party today? They are leading a life of luxury with silence. They are hardly doing anything meaningful for the country or the party. When the leaders from young age to old could not give a strong opposition to the ruling party in the country, can they truly care about the values of the party? They are simply deceiving the country and are equally responsible for the demise of the day-to-day democracy as much as the totalitarian ruling party.

The time has come for the Congress to learn from Amit Shah who works day and night with complete dedication for his party. Mr. Shah is preparing for state elections right now, which will take place after two years. From the block to the booth level, he is meeting his party leaders and ordinary workers to devise the strategy of the party. Amit Shah is making them passionate about the party. That is why Congress has not been able to break Shah’s political talisman till now.

It is time for Congress to undertake serious rethinking within itself. Otherwise, one day it along with its lazy high command could only be responsible for making the BJP’s plan successful of “Congress free India”.
